Your Personal Swim Coach is proud to offer the Special Needs Children swim program. This program offers lessons to children ages 5-10 years old with developmental, behavioral, and learning disabilities. The classes are offered weekly for 30-minute sessions in very small groups (maximum of 3 children per lesson). These developmental lessons are adapted to each child’s specific needs and emphasize on the strengths and unique attributes of each swimmer.
These customized classes offer participants a challenging range of activities, that can be easily adjusted to aid each child’s emotional and developmental abilities in order to improve their water safety, coordination, and attention as well as their self-esteem. This program helps them progress at their own pace in a fun and social atmosphere.
The long-term goal of this course is to help the children become strong, independent swimmers. Water safety and feeling comfortable in the water while working on important therapeutic components is the primary short-term goal.
These fun and educational classes are designed for individuals with special needs including:
- Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)
- Downs Syndrome
- Multi Complex Development Disorder (MCDD)
- Temper Dysregulation Disorder (TDD)
- Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD)
- Attachment disorder
- Anxiety disorders
The special needs swimming program is led by one of the Owners of YPSC, Mandy de Vries, a certified swim instructor with more than 10 years of experience and a Master of Science in Pedagogical Sciences. She ensures the proper development of each student through highly personalized and entertaining lessons.
